New Menu Options

The GCSS School Nutrition Program started the new year with a Farm to School celebration at Mundy Mill Academy. Over 400 students had the opportunity to taste two kinds of cornbread; with one being featured in the 2020-2021 school menus. The cornbread was served with a new dish, Cheesy Potatoes with Collard Greens, to expose students to different types of food and recipes. Food sampling allows the School Nutrition Program to gain a better understanding of the kinds of healthy foods that students enjoy eating to help staff plan future meals. The Farm to School initiative has been instrumental in providing students with fresh foods produced directly from Georgia farms and in educating them regarding the importance of eating nutritious meals as part of their regular diets. One of the advantages of the program is the introduction of new foods to students that they, otherwise, may never be exposed to eating.
